The Role

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer at Poseidon's Forge, you will complement our core mechanical team and help carry a growing book of work across our vehicle platforms. This is a hands-on, high-ownership role spanning the full breadth of underwater vehicle mechanical design.

What You'll Do

• Design and develop mechanical systems for autonomous underwater vehicles, from concept through build and test.
• Work across the full range of vehicle mechanical design: propulsion and thrust, motor design, control surfaces, electronics packaging, mechanical packaging, pressure vessels, subsea housings, etc.
• Determine proper material selection for various projects.
• Apply hydrodynamic principles to improve vehicle performance.
• Contribute to design reviews and help mature our engineering practices as we scale.
• Work closely with the existing mechanical and systems teams to hit customer delivery schedules.
• Develop CAD-based drawing packages utilizing GD&T and ASME Y14 standards.
• Work closely with suppliers to bring new technologies and capabilities to the subsea space.
• Build buoyancy documentation for various vehicle configurations.
• Work with purchasing to ensure parts and assemblies are tracked using an ERP system.

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience, ideally in the underwater, marine, or an adjacent technology industry.
• Expert-level SolidWorks proficiency.
• Broad mechanical design experience across propulsion, large item packaging, and pressure vessels, with strong subsea materials understanding.
• Experience with GD&T.
• Must enjoy working closely as a team.
• Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience; a Master's in Ocean Engineering, or a Mechanical degree paired with an Ocean Engineering background, is a plus. We care far more about your motivation, drive, and hands-on experience than your credentials.
• Shock and vibe experience is a plus.
• Product manufacturing and/or production experience is a plus.
• Experience with ANSYS and CFD is a plus.
• Hydrodynamics or propulsion design experience is a plus.
• Field or deployment experience, seeing these vehicles operate in the real world, is a plus.
• Experience working with ERP systems and understanding the workflows that are associated with them is a plus.
• Able to participate in at-sea vehicle testing aboard small vessels, with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Able to lift and maneuver vehicle components and test equipment up to 50 lbs, with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Must be a U.S. person (U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or individual granted asylum or refugee status), as this position requires access to information controlled under U.S. export control regulations (ITAR/EAR).
